Who is biased?
WE ARE! The Implicit Associations Test can help you learn about the different types of implicit biases you might have.
What is implicit bias?
An implicit bias is an attitude or stereotype that affects our understanding, action, and decision in an unconscious manner.
Why do I want to know about implicit biases?
Implicit biases impact our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Since they are unconscious we do not know they exist. Once hidden biases are revealed, we can begin to challenge each thought, feeling, and action. Having the motivation to confront these hidden biases enables alignment of good intentions.
What is Penn State doing?
Penn State is doing a variety of things to bring awareness to implicit bias. For example, Penn State recently held an event, Check Your Blind Spots, where students of the Penn State community could discover the nuances of their implicit biases. Penn State’s All In program has also had a number of accomplishments that have helped increase diversity, inclusion, and equity at Penn State.
